Athens, Greece – 2016. In Athens the center of attraction as far as Greek history is concerned is the Acropolis and the various temples on it which were built at the end of the fifth century BC. The word acropolis means "highest point". Most Greek cities had an acropolis, where people sheltered during war times and where they built their sanctuaries. The Acropolis in Athens is a 156 meter (512 ft) high limestone rock. The temples on the top of this rock include the Parthenon and Temple of Athena Nike.
